IllustrationFriday topic: "Wilderness"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old...
After explaining that a wilderness is a wild place, and can be considered a desert or a forest, she chose to draw a forest scene.
What is in the forest?
"A bear." What is he doing? "Walking." To where? "To a tree." Why? "He is going to climb it." For what? "To get honey."
[After TheSquirrel drew two good pine trees, together we used the computer to duplicate them, to make a forest.]

Please view her previous post, for the word "confined,"--my favorite yet, definitely!!

IllustrationFriday topic: "Confined"

You've got to read the back-story to this one! (below)

TheSquirrel is 5 years old...
She told me the other day that an alien hides under her bed.
Playfully, I just responded "I don't know how he can fit under there with all the games!"
Without skipping a beat, she surprised me by replying that:
"He can fit under there because a special vacuum sucks all the air out of the alien and makes him so flat."
[lol]
She continued, "and I know just what the vacuum looks like-- I'm going to draw it for you."
TheSquirrel drew on her chalkboard the flattened alien and his vacuum.
Her most inventive design yet. :)
I put her drawing over a photo of the alien's living quarters.

IllustrationFriday topic: "Entangled"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old. The Illustration Friday word was "Entangled."
After I told her what the word means, she thought of a dog (of course!) entangled in his leash. We were learning fire safety, so we decided to make it a dalmation. I asked her what he could be tied to that is another fire safety object...(fire hydrant).
The fire house is in the background. It is on fire of course! :)

IllustrationFriday topic: "Blur"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old. Together we made this for the word "blur."
"Wilbur the pig did not like Madison so he kicked mud on her. Her glasses are muddy. Now things are blurry."

(Here was the process: "blur" made her think of someone squinting. She drew that. Then she drew glasses that made the person see better. Then I said we could embellish the glasses for fun. She used every color of cray-pas she had, so it began to get "muddy." I said it was like she got mud on her glasses. TheSquirrel cheerfully agreed. We picked a photo setting which is muddy. She saw the pig and decided to blame it on him. ...Viola!)

IllustrationFriday topic: "Germs"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old. We happened to be reading a great book about germs (below) when the IllustrationFriday topic was "germs"!! She drew a germ from the book: this is the one that would make you throw up.
It is by Judith Rice & Reed Merrill
(Here he is in the book, drawn by Mr. Merrill)

IllustrationFriday topic: "Pattern"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old. She is learning patterns. Her fish's stripes have an ABC pattern to them, and then together we added the background photo.
We were excited for the IllustrationFriday topic of "Pattern", and naturally made a fish,
because of this great book we were reading and learning from:
Comments welcome!!

IllustrationFriday topic: "Infinite"

TheSquirrel is 5 years old. When asked what she thought of with the word "Infinite, (which means something goes on and on forever)," she said "hot-air balloons" because she imagines that they would float in the sky forever if you never landed them.
We digitally added textures to her original drawing.
This guy's holding on to the ropes. (everyone else is hiding inside the basket, a.k.a. she didn't feel like drawing any more people)
This is her original crayon drawing. I love that each balloon had its own design: a house balloon, a hot-air balloons balloon, a "Bingo" balloon (the grid one), a big white egg balloon, and a universe balloon. haha!
